5 Tips To Have An Allergy-Free Spring

Whether you suffer from allergies or not, these practical tips will help you feel amazing, get in shape, and enjoy being outdoors even more.

If you live in a cold climate, you can’t wait for signs of spring. I'm sure that the sound of birds singing and lawns being mowed is music to your ears.

Regardless of where you live, you probably don’t look forward to the seasonal allergies that often come with it.

Whether the change in season bothers you or not, here are some tips to avoid suffering from allergies this spring or just get in shape.

1. Reduce how much you’re eating. Starting in the fall, most people eat heavier, dense foods (lots of meat, soups, stews, and starchy vegetables) to prepare their body for the long winter ahead.

In the spring, however, you don’t need those reserves. If given a chance, your appetite should naturally decrease because in the spring you don’t need as much food as you did in the winter.

Eat smaller portions especially at dinner, and make lunch the largest meal of the day.

Set a goal of filling half of your plate with vegetables that are in season
and the other half with equal parts of a healthy protein and fiber-rich grain.

2. Enjoy the delicious spring fruits and vegetables available. They're not only fresher, they actually cost less and taste better. They contain the microbes that your body recognizes and needs to thrive.

Fruits and vegetables eaten in the correct season help the body do major internal house cleaning. Your organs, like your liver, are hard working and need a break. Switching to a lighter diet in the spring will give you an opportunity for a total body makeover.

Fruits and vegetables contain amazing enzymes and digest quickly leaving you feeling light and energized. They are filled with powerful vitamins and minerals that help the body heal and repair.

3. Avoid foods that are mucus forming. Many people suffer from excess mucus in the spring especially if you live in cold climates where you’re indoors all winter.

Dairy and wheat products are common culprits. They can cause inflammation in the body which triggers excess mucus.

Other foods that can cause a buildup are corn, eggs, deep fried foods, sweets, high fat meat, alcohol, and caffeine.

Foods that will clear out mucus are all leafy greens, radishes, dandelions, sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, ginger, turmeric, garlic, onions, citrus fruit and pineapple.

4. Get outside and breathe. Even on cool days, it’s important to get outside and get fresh air. Getting outdoors first thing in the morning also helps to keep your circadian rhythm on schedule.

Interestingly enough, getting early sunlight in the morning helps you to be more alert and improves your sleep quality at night.

As often as possible, do some kind of physical activity every day. It doesn’t have to be strenuous for you to see results.

It can be as simple as going for a walk, a bike ride, or jogging. Gentle stretching to get your body moving and in shape helps with muscle and joint pain, too.

Chances are you have plenty of yard work to stay busy for a while. Being outdoors also gives you an opportunity to get some natural vitamin D.

5. Stay hydrated.
Drinking water helps lubricate joints, flush harmful toxins from the body, and keep beneficial fluids circulating throughout the body. During the day, sip on room temperature water and avoid drinking anything with meals.

Adding lemon to your water is a simple way to start your day and it promotes healthy elimination. When you don't drink enough water, it's easy to get constipated which is hard on your organs, especially the liver.

That’s when those waste particles meant for the toilet are recirculated through the body causing all kinds of problems. It can lead to chronic back pain, skin problems, headaches, weight gain, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and many serious conditions.

Drinking water 30 minutes before a meal will help prepare your digestive system to work at optimal levels to break down your food, and you'll feel full sooner.

Most people will then eat less which leads to weight loss. Increased water consumption also reduces sugar cravings which is always a good thing.
