The Heartbeat of God

The Heartbeat of God

Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of women? It’s easy to not be concerned about what we can’t see, and let daily bad habits chip away at our health.

Just as the heart pumps life-giving blood throughout our body, so too, in our spiritual life, the heart dictates who we are and what we do. Our arteries can develop a plaque buildup that causes the blood flow to slow or stop and lead to a potential heart attack. Are there areas in your life that have become spiritual plaque? Are things keeping you from having the relationship with God that you know is possible?

Proverbs 27:19 says, “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart”. What we see on the outside is just a reflection of what’s going on on the inside. Proverbs 4:23 - 27 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”.

These verses go on to give us wise words on how to “guard the heart”.

  1. “Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you. “(verse 24) Just as what we put in our mouth can have devastating effects on our body including the heart, so corrupt words coming out of our mouth can also have a devastating effect on our spiritual heart. We need to discipline our mouth and only speak words that bring value to the hearer. They either penetrate the lining of our heart and spirit making it stronger or they pierce it one word at a time.

  2. “Let your eyes look straight ahead and your eyelids look right before you”. (verse 25) Where do you spend your time? Is it beneficial? As we walk through this life, are you keeping your eyes focused on your purpose and where you’re headed? It’s so easy to get distracted by all the sideshows that would pull us away from our goals and what’s really important.

  3. “Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established”. (verse 26) When we know where we’re going, and we’re walking in that direction, there’s a peace that goes with us. Frequently, stop to make sure you’re where you want to be in life. It’s never too late to find your way back, recalculate, and get back on track.

  4. “Do not turn to the right or the left, remove your foot from evil”. (verse 27) Everyday you’re faced with decisions that have the potential to pull you down the wrong path. Watch out for subtle ways you could be tempted to compromise your values.

What is the condition of your spiritual heart? Have you innocently allowed things to get in the way of where you should be? Allow God to surgically remove anything keeping you from living a vibrant purposeful life.

If you listen closely, you’ll hear His heartbeat, and that’s a wonderful place to be!!
