Eat Anti-Inflammatory Foods to Reduce Disease

Many in the medical profession believe that “inflammation is at the root of most disease”. We are plagued by chronic diseases like asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, and more.

However, inflammation is a normal function of the body and is necessary when there is an injury to the body or there’s illness. Our immune system does its job of sending out white blood cells to the rescue. You will often see redness or swelling in that area and experience some pain.

This is the body doing what it’s supposed to do - heal itself.

Once these diseases appear in the body, the overwhelmed immune system actually begins to attach the healthy areas of the body. Now, you really have a serious problem.

Unfortunately, our standard American diet (SAD) of high calories processed food, and little to no nutritional value has only added to this rising situation.

So, what should you avoid? Stay aways from processed foods filled with trans fats and

refined sugars and carbs.

Many believe the Mediterranean diet to be one of the best to help people reduce the inflammation in the body. This diet is made up of plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, only small amounts of red meat (chemical and additive-free), and lots of foods with omega-3.

Choose foods high in antioxidants like dark green leafy vegetables, as well as, colorful produce like beets, broccoli, and blueberries. Nuts and seeds offer you a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids which is also good for your heart. And, many herbs like turmeric and ginger help reduce inflammation.

Here’s a list of Dr. Axe’s 15 anti-inflammatory foods:

  1. Leafy greens

  2. Celery

  3. Beets

  4. Broccoli

  5. Blueberries

  6. Pineapple

  7. Bone broth

  8. Fatty fish

  9. Walnuts

  10. Coconut oil

  11. Chia seeds

  12. Flaxseeds

  13. Turmeric

  14. Bok choy

  15. Ginger

If you are not familiar with these nutrient rich foods, start off with a couple that would be easy to add to your diet like the fruit. Next, add the leafy greens to your meals in a salad. Try to add something new each week. Before long, you’ll crowd out the bad foods as you add in more healthy choices.
